Hey, hey, hey! What’s up folks.
It‘s been a long time since I’ve posted anything on the old blog. I’d like to say it’s cause I’ve been living the Fabulous Life, but alas…nope. My life is as boring as ever. I really just haven’t had much that I felt like blogging about.
Obviously, that has changed, since you see this brand spanking new blog post right here. So…you’ve come this far, you might as well continue reading.
Alright, so, if you have been following me here and elsewhere on social media, then you already should know, that I’ve been having some deep thoughts and feeling about my career path and what I want to do going forward. I don’t know if it’s cause I’m turning 40 this year, or what, but I’ve found myself contemplating what and how I’d life my professional life in the Micro lab to progress into my mid-life.
I’ve looked into more schooling, but I don’t really want to go back to school. I’ve thought about finding a new job. I continually look for jobs in my chosen specialty.
I looked into moving to another state. I’ve even thought about leaving the laboratory entirely. It’s been a really frustrating and stressful time. But then, a couple of days ago…it hit me…LIGHT BULB!
I’ve come to a decision about what I can do to advance my career in the immediate time, as I await for the right job opportunity to knock.
As ya’ll may remember, I’ve been a licensed Medical Technologist for over 10 years with a focus on Microbiology. I love the Micro lab and I can see myself working in the Micro lab until I retire or something.
So to work as a MT, you have to be nationally certified. I’ve been a certified MT Generalist for the past 11 1/2 years. There are different certifications based on specialty and what not, but I’ve mostly just kept up the generalist cert, cause it was less money. As I look at the job market and I see what may be ahead of me, I’ve come to the conclusion, that it’s time for me to get off my cheap high horse, and go ahead and get my certification as a Specialist in Microbiology!
It’s time.
So, I’m getting ready to pay a butt load of money (not really, but it aint’ just $25, that’s for sure :-), all just so I can take an exam and hopefully pass it the FIRST TIME! I’m excited, and apprehensive at the same time. Excited, because I’m feel confident in my experience as a Microbiologist. Apprehensive because, its still a standardized test, and failure is a possibility. It’s okay though. I know if I do this, it will open up doors for me that may have been closed before.
At the end of it, I’ll have a bunch of letters after my name, and a lot more options for the future!
Must be something in the air. I am contemplating major changes, as well. Good luck and can’t wait to hear more…

Best of Luck with the test. Maybe there are practice standardized tests online or local library so you can be prepared with the format.
Only advice other than that is to answer C even if you don’t know the answer. It’s better than a blank answer. 😊 😉
