Good night from Melbourne, Australia. Or, should I say Good Morning USA!! It’s is May 21, 2018, 11:15pm here in Melbourne and it has been a LONG azz night and short day of flying and traveling to get here.
My full travel day started Saturday May 19, although it really started on May 18 when I flew to Dallas, where my Australia flight leg began. I started my day flying from NOLA to Dallas and almost immediately heading to get my hair done by Michelle Rushing at her shop in DFW called Natural Tapestry Hair Salon
Here is what I wanted and my before and after pics:
Also and most important while I was in Dallas , I checked in with the newest edition to the family, my beautiful new nephew Joshua David Turner!!
Here he is with his sure to be FAVORITE auntie…
After some family time with my mama (who was there to visit the new baby too) and Layla, I got a few hours of sleep in (but not quite enough…my mom’s a talker🙄🙄), I headed to Dallas Love Field to meet up with my friends and the REAL long day of flying began.
My flight itinerary includes 3 legs of flying…DAL-ATL, ATL-LAX, & LAX-MEL. I won’t bore ya with the details of each leg of the trip (if you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, you’ll see the details like that), but just note, the longest layover time was at LAX (8hr) and of course the longest flight was from LAX to Melbourne, 15+hrs.
We left LA at 9 pm on May 19th, and arrived in Melbourne at 6am May 21st. After going through customs, getting airline customer service to upgrade my seat for the return flight in 10 days, and Uber-ing (first time seeing folks driving on opposite side of the road) to our hotel (Doubletree Hilton Melbourne ) I was able to check into a room early and after breakfast I headed back to the room & almost promptly dived into the bed for a “nap” from which I woke up less than 3 hrs ago, where I slept for 8 HOURS!! And to be quite honest, I could use a bit more!!
So I ended my first night in Melbourne pretty much eating and sleeping in my hotel. I’ll be well rested and able to do some touristy stuff tomorrow after breakfast!
Woo…if you are tired after reading this account of the first day, imagine how I felt…
Alright, so that’s the end of Day 1, good night from Melbourne…and I’ll be sure to have another blog post tomorrow!
Welcome to the land downunder!
