Ok, I’m a little late with the review for Iron Man 3, but here it is.
So I saw Iron Man 3 the weekend it came out. I gotta say, it was ahright. RDJ was his usual self, Gwenyth Paltrow was her usual self and that’s about all I can say about it.
Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t hate it, it just felt kinda stale to me, maybe that’s cause just seemed to me that RDJ was basically just dialing it in. Yes he was acerbic with his wit, yes he had his Tony Stark smirk down, yes, his quips were pleasant, but really not much to write home about. In fact, I hate to say it, but bout the only 2 good bit was we got to see Don Cheadle do much more and kick some ass and Guy Pearce was chewing up the scenery like crazy. As for the “main ” villain in this installment, The Mandarin (won’t spoil it for you, but…) it was a total waste of the awesomeness that is Ben Kingsley. Don’t get me wrong, the Ben Kingsley was awesome, but the way they used him was a complete wast, IMHO.
So anyway, I left the theatre thinking,..MEH! Maybe it was because the hype was too much, maybe it was because The Avengers was sooooo good, who knows. Also I can say is MEH!
Ok. So here’s the rating:
Overall Rating: B. The plot IMHO, was ok. A bit too much Gwenyth Paltrow for my taste, but otherwise, at this point, Tony Stark/Iron Man is like a second skin for RDJ, he can do the character in his sleep, and I’m sorry to say, but in this movie it wasn’t enough to make the movie anymore interesting to me. There were 2 “big surprises”, that I actually figured out fairly early on. And of course there were a few good quips from RDJ and Don Cheadle.
Best Acting: Guy Pearce was awesome, not surprisingly, dude can do no wrong, IMHO. For my money, Guy Pearce is one of the most under-rated of the current crop of Australia actors/actresses (i.e. Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts & Russell Crowe). Oh and Ben Kingsley was awesome when he was was in “full Mandarin” mode.
Worse Acting: Gwenyth Paltrow, for no reason other than the fact that I just can’t stand Gwenyth. Sue me…lol.
P.S. I asked my sister Robin, who’s not as big into movies as I am, what she remembered about IM3 and she said ” Um…ya know what I remember the kid. That part was funny.” So…there is that.
